Sycamore Drive Play Area Laverstock & Ford Parish Council

“foster creativity, curiosity and encourage children to develop their skills”

Our Mission - Stuart Evans

We have thoroughly enjoyed putting together the design concept for Sycamore Drive. We pride ourselves on designing play space that can be used by children of all ages and abilities, ultimately creating play spaces for all. The underlying mission for eibe Play, is to create play spaces that help develop and promote fit and healthy children . We pride ourselves on designing natural play spaces, that fit into the surrounding area, with sustainability at the forefront of our minds, from the timber we use, to the installation teams who bring them to life. Our aim is to create low maintenance, long lasting play spaces that can be enjoyed by children for years to come. Your design brief and location really excited us, as we felt that our mission, was evenly matched with your brief for this new play space. We feel this play area will become a hub for the local community, especially due to the close proximately to the local schools, therefore the selection of play equipment we chose was vital. We have chosen equipment that we feel will benefit the children using it, and offer the right amount of play value and features for children of all ages. In accordance with your brief and our discussions it was vital that we include equipment which can be used by children with a wide range of abilities. Another key element was accessibility, both for wheelchairs and prams. To achieve this, the easily accessible and inclusive pathways have been included to ensure safe passage through the play area all year round. We have installed your new play equipment on naturally designed artificial surfaces, which can also be used throughout the year.

Your new play area focuses on providing social play value by delivering and environment where children can take part in cooperative play, social interaction dramatic and imaginative play.

Ultimately, we feel our design offers the optimum play value, opportunities and experiences for your children using the play space.

We are keen to work with you as a partner, so please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

All installation measurments should be taken from the supplied installation instructions 4. Any discrepancy found between information shown and measurments taken from site should be reported to eibe immediatley 5. Full area measurments are to be checked before installation can proceed 6. Check foundation level requirements for each item GENERAL NOTES If not indicated on this plan, north point must be confirmed prior to installation to ensure that slides do not face due south. Exact positions & orientation of new items may be subject to a final site survey and setting out plan. Any inconsistencies on site should be verified with eibe before commencement of work. eibe recommend that existing trees are risk-assessed by the client to ensure the integrity of accessible branches, that overhanging limbs do not conflict with new play equipment or vehicle access and that the canopy will not produce excessive leaf drop which could cause a hazard within the play area. This design layout conforms to the relevant EN Safety Standard. GRASS & GRASS MAT SURFACING Where equipment is installed directly into grass and the free height of fall is between 0.6m and 1.5m it is the responsibility of the playground operator to ensure that the grass sward is maintained in good order. Where equipment is installed with grass mat surfacing it is the responsibility of the playground operator to ensure that the grass is maintained in good order. When laid directly onto existing grass this surface will follow the natural contours of the ground. RUBBER MULCH SURFACING eibe recommend the use of a 50mm stone base when installing rubber mulch. If installed without the finished surface will be a reflection of the ground beneath it, following any undulations, & will not be a completely flat surface. Rubber mulch will not cure any existing drainage problems & will require foundations and/or some kind of drainage system prior to installation.

Fabulously located along the A27 on Southampton Hill next to Titchfield Abbey in Fareham. Abbey Meadows story started back in 2018 with the council looking to install a brand-new natural style play area ranging equipment for different ages and abilities. Following a consultation, the residents and young people took part in an online game where they had the chance to pick the equipment they would like to be installed. As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the work on preparing the site

area was delayed; therefore, the project began in 2021 and was opened to the public by the Mayor of Fareham Councillor, Mrs Pamela Bryant, on Wednesday 7th June 2021. This new play area has been designed with the full consideration of the history of the 16th century ‘Titchfield Abbey’ and complements the surroundings of the park’s location. eibe play is also proud to have designed and installed the council’s two other destination play areas at Holly Hill and Daedalus Common. The new Abbey Meadows play area features a range of equipment for all ages and abilities, including a multi-climbing unit themed bespoke by the designers at eibe play, which is suitable for children with reduced mobility, meaning all

children will be able to experience play and have fun together. eibe worked closely with the council to ensure the play area was functional, adventurous but still challenging and safe, which is essential for a child’s development. Alongside the junior castle play unit, eibe installed a nest swing, junior and toddler swings, rockers and a snake swing which are all situated on top of a bonded rubber mulch surface. Executive Member for Leisure and Community, Cllr Sue Bell, said: “This play area will be a huge benefit for the local community and visitors to Titchfield. It is incredibly important that children of all abilities can play together, so the large multi-climbing unit allows children with reduced mobility to come and play with their friends. “I would like to thank the residents of Titchfield and the Titchfield Village Trust who were involved in the consultation process and particularly the children from Titchfield Primary School who shared their ideas and helped us. I would also like to thank Eibe Play for coming up with this fantastic design.”.

Jubilee Park is situated in the heart of Waterlooville, Hants, and is a well-used and loved playing field. The playing fields are often used for community events and are also home to a MUGA, Skate Park and numerous sports clubs such as Bowls and Cricket. Havant Borough Council has previously preferred to use metal play equipment for their play spaces due to past experiences using timber. However, in 2021 eibe Play arranged site visits of three play spaces around Fareham with the Park Officers for Havant Borough Council. Fareham Borough Council installed these play spaces over two years, which previously had the same opinion. All three of these destinations play spaces have been

a great success and changed Fareham Borough Councils’ mindset on the quality and durability of timber play equipment. After visiting these play areas with eibe Play and speaking to the council members from Fareham Borough Council, the council saw the quality. It felt the durability was suitable for both parties to feel confident enough for eibe Play to tender for any of their play area refurbishment schemes. A few months passed, and then eibe Play received the tender paperwork for the exciting redevelopment of the Jubilee Park Play Area. We were highly excited to tender for this scheme, and after a site visit, to better understand the requirements and the playing space as a whole, eibe Play started the design stage of the tender submission. We felt this play area, especially the local community, deserved a WOW factor play area to fit in with the destination feel for the rest of the park. This was at the forefront of our minds with the initial design work. We also thought that the play area needed to represent elements of the nature found around the park, which would help with the theme of the play area and educate the local children. However, this can be seen

all around the play area, with the theming within the wet pour surface. The play area also needed to be inclusive and include play equipment that children of all abilities can use. The play equipment eibe Play has chosen for this play space included elements designed for reasonable access for all users; however, it also allowed all children to play together without being singled out. This can be seen in particular with the inclusion of the Inclusive Floor Roundabout and the Play Unit Lauren which has an accessible ramp leading up to the main platform, surrounded by play panels. Another critical factor when designing any play space is accessibility for all users. Therefore, we have created all the play equipment accessible via a hard-standing surface. Which also helps the equipment to be used all year round. In February 2022, eibe Play was excited to hear the news that we had been awarded the contract for the refurbishment of Jubilee Park Play Area. The work commenced in April 2022, with a predicted finish date of the May bank holiday weekend. With much hard work, we managed to meet this deadline, where

the play area was opened to many excited children keen to use the great new play equipment the play space had to offer. eibe Play was keen to support the council and the Friends of the Park group to create a grand opening worthy of this great new play space. Therefore, eibe Play donated balloons, ribbons, bunting and goodie bags for the first children to use the play area. Eibe Play is looking forward to a fantastic working relationship with Havant Borough Council to ensure the play space is a success and well-loved by the local community for years to come.

Adur and Worthing Council and eibe Play share a fantastic relationship and have previously worked on various play spaces across Worthing, including Tarring Park and Gull Island. The play area is located right next to a primary school and surrounded by residential streets, so it is a popular destination for the local community. Families frequently use the fields surrounding the play area for picnics, dogwalkers and community events. The design brief from the council was to ensure the play areawas accessible for all and to include play features for children aged 2-12 years old. Due to the extremely high water table on site, the council also wanted to ensure that the play area was accessible all year round. They also wanted to ensure easy access for prams and wheelchairs throughout the play space. Due to the play areas’ extreme proximity to the seafront, eibe Play chose to go with a sea theme throughout. They also took elements of their existing catalogue and adapted them to fit the play space’s theme. For example, specific play panels and slides were manufactured to be blue to help support this theme. The pathway leading to the play space was also given a makeover, with a brand new wet pour surface leading from one gate to another. When designing the play space, eibe Play wanted to include the right amount of play value and features for children of all ages. For example, toddlers need to discover and test themselves on a climbing unit that offers them various play opportunities, such as climbing and sliding. This, in some instances, will be their first experience of climbing and sliding, therefore developing essential skills such as lower and upper body coordination. For this, we chose our Play Unit K2, which we dressed up to resemble a seaside cottage. Once they grow older and want to develop their skills further, they can move on to our adapted Climbing Unit, Ben Nevis, which has various challenging crossings and ways to get off and onto the unit. It also has an excellent and unique Broad Slide. The Ben Nevis is designed for children aged 5 to 12 years. Surrounding these fantastic items, eibe Play chose various other challenging and fun play options such as the Stand Up Carousel, Fisher Rockers, Snake Swing and multiple swings. Eibe Play needed to design this space as inclusive as possible. To help aid this already fully accessible play space, eibe Play included their brand new Wheelchair Seesaw. This, as well as the Broad Slide, various sea-themed play panels and the eibe Nest Swing seat, eibe Play believe they have chosen the right amount of play equipment that makes this play space accessible for all.

As previously mentioned, the play area’s safer surfacing has been designed to ensure it’s fully accessible all year round. This was a significant part of their design thinking process. The design includes an entire wet pour surface laid over the existing surfacing in most areas. This allows us to provide an environmentally friendly option, as there will be no to take materials off-site for refuge. This follows eibe Plays, environmentally green ethos. After the council went through a consultation stage with the local community, eibe Play was privileged to be awarded the play area refurbishment contract. They quickly engaged with the council o refine the play equipment chosen, and after a couple of minor amendments, the manufacturing of the equipment commenced. The play area was opened by the council in time to be enjoyed by the children over a gloriously sunny winter’s weekend, and the initial feedback we have received has been very positive. eibe Play hope that Larkfield Play Area will be loved and well used by local children for years to come!

• UV stabilized for fade resistant outdoor use • Will not rot, delaminate, splinter or crack • Stain and graffiti resistant for easy cleaning

• Durable orange peel textured finish • Moisture and chemical resistant • High impact resistant • 100% recyclable and non toxic • Easily machined and engraved • No heavy metals • No phthalates

High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) sheets are extruded and co-extruded thermoplastic materials that are used worldwide in the manufacture of panels and components for the Playground, Sport, Leisure and Recreation Industries. The versatile properties of this material, including UV stability, make it resistant to fading, moisture, weather, stain and graffiti. The perfect choice for outdoor environments. HDPE is easily routed or engraved using current CNC technology, in the case of 2-colour sheet options, you can remove the outer colour and revealing the colour inside to create almost unlimited design capabilities. Increasingly used across a wide range of industries and applications, HDPE panels are being used to replace timber and composite panel components. Whilst the initial cost of these materials may be lower, the long-termmaintenance requirements and shorter life expectancy make their choice a false economy. Surfacing Rubber Bonded

Tested and compliant with EN1177 (certificate available upon request) Rubber Bonded Mulch is:

• Highly Slip Resistant • Fire Retardant • Impact Absorbing • Porous • High Durable • Versatile • Colour Variations (allowing for Theming and to suite the site context)

Rubber Mulch - A unique process that starts with recycling solid rubber that otherwise would go to landfill; consistent control of this process provides us with a carefully blended flat shred, which is then coloured with our unique encapsulation process that not only gives us a natural looking surface, but one that is soft and flexible, long lasting and bonds perfectly. Binder - A specially developed PU binder that is designed to work in cooperation with the shred size, the colouring process, and the requirements of a strong, yet flexible bond. This mixture is then simply spread out with a trowel. As this bonded shred system is self-supporting it requires no digging of foundations and the lack of large or heavy equipment makes it cost effective for even small or difficult access areas. Moreover it will easily work directly onto almost any existing ground conditions including grass or soil, old tiles or wet pour, crushed aggregate or concrete; it will follow the natural sloping contours of the ground and / or absorb undulations and can even be spread directly over tree roots and around plants.

Edges with Pre- Cast Concrete edging and set upon a compacted MOT Type 1 base this surfacing will provide a low maintenance, highly durable safety surface solution for the high volume of footfall the site is likely to see. In addition, the opportunity to introduce colour and vibrancy will enhance the play proposals and offer extended opportunities for creative play. It will also provide opportunities for those with visual impairments to engage within the play environment through visual stimulation, and allow for users of all abilities access onto and throughout the proposed play environment. • Highly UV- and weather stable (When using Aliphatic Binder) • Dust free granules • No colour bleeding • Colour consistency • No batch to batch variation between bags • Granules have been shaped to optimise slip resistance, spread rate and surface strength Maintenance: Wetpour is a low maintenance product. Rubber-Aggregate Durable Pathway Surface

A 100% recycled rubber product that has been developed to be bound together with high-grade polymer resins to create a strong, durable and long lasting surface that resembles the look of aggregate and can be used within landscaping areas. It provides a resin bound stone effect. You can choose from a wide range of materials in a variety of colours. Based in Somerset, we serve commercial and residential customers in the South of England and across the UK. We can export our products across Europe. AN IDEAL SOLUTION FOR TREE PITS AND PATHWAYS Ideal for tree pits and pathways. With great porosity, the pathway retains oxygen and nutrients for the root system. It will not create trip points due to root heave and will not trap food or discarded sharp/broken glass. For pathways, it acts as a safer surface with excellent slip resistance. There is no need for edges such as timber edges and pin kerbs that would only rot away. Contact us for a free estimate or to discuss your requirements.

RUBBER AGRIGATE IS IDEAL FOR: • Tree pits • Pathways • Golf buggy tracks • Seating areas • Bin areas • Shady muddy areas • Skate parks

Base • We will lay the 50mm product onto a minimum of 50mm stone base.

Maintenance • This is a low maintenance product. However, it should undergo routine inspection and maintenance to keep it in optimum condition.

Environmental Impact Statement

Minimising our Carbon Footprint eibe is committed to reducing its Environmental footprint and Carbon Emissions and undertakes to do whatever we can in order to ensure this happens. w As a result eibe is recognised, independently tested and certified to ISO 9001 and 14001 for its Quality and Environmental Management Systems As a result of the processes set out within (particularly ISO14001) these systems set out processes and procedures for the reduction of Carbon Emissions wherever practical. Examples of this include – Reducing Unnecessary Travel – Where possible we will contact our clients remotely rather than travel unless it is considered necessary. We have been using team meeting applications such as Zoom, Google Hangouts, Microsoft Teams and Teamviewer etc which also allow third parties to be include on the meetings. This reduces the carbon footprint and, as time is a precious commodity, reduces peoples travel time. All eibe office-based staff are actively encouraged and incentivised to car pool. Whilst in some instances it is not practical to do so, where ever possible senior management encourage this throughout its staff, not only does this have a positive effect on the employees i.e. reducing their own fuel/car expenses – but also has a positive effect on the amount of vehicles on the road and therefore the carbon emissions expended. These are just a number of examples in which as a business eibe look to reduce its carbon emissions. Other more obvious and day to day examples include: Practical measures we have taken to improve the environment, reduce consumption of fuel and other natural resources. Please see below a number of practical measures eibe have been taken to improve the environment, reduce fuel consumption and natural resources: Using the interactive map facility on our Force Manager CRM system to maximise the effectiveness of travel planning. The purpose of this implementation was twofold – to ensure staff were being as productive as possible within their working day, and to also ensure that through the reduction of wasted vehicle journeys fuel consumption was reduced. The effects of which since its inception have seen staff driving company vehicles doing so much more methodically and with their travel plan in mind. This has helped to reduce company overheads, has made staff more productive, and has reduced overall fuel consumption of the business. The installation of an incinerator at our manufacturing plant in which is is fed by the off-cuts of wood/timber from eibe’s manufacturing process and as such generates heating for the eibe head offices on the site. Whilst the initial investment in the incinerator is large , it was deemed appropriate to make its business more financially effective, reduce waste, and reduce its environmental footprint. Our manufacturing plant is approximately 9,000m2 in size. It manufactures and produces approximately 20 million Euros worth of wooden playground equipment each year from its central manufacturing plant. As a result of the manufacturing process it is inevitable that waste from offcuts is created, even using eibe’s precision engineered machinery. As a result eibe chose to invest in an incinerator. In the first instance this was on the basis of burning wood/timber offcuts as a means to heat the factory and warehouse and reduce the need for waste to be exported (by vehicle) from site to landfill. This then expanded to systems being installed where the incinerator now also heats eibe’s Head Offices. This has seen a hugely positive impact on the reduction of waste within eibe’s factory – reducing its environmental impact and changing it for an increase in natural fuel consumption that otherwise would go to waste/landfill. In addition, it has also seen a benefit in the financial savings it makes on gas usage.

Ensuring only Sustainable Products are used In line with our Environmental policy, we consider the environmental implications of materials, manufacturing, installation activities and subsequent through life sustainability and ultimately disposal. We adopt design best practice ensuring that we look at whole life costs including the principles of minimising waste during the lifecycle of our play areas thereby mitigating the need for disposal of material wherever possible. We seek to design out waste both during manufacture, installation during its useful life, and following decommissioning of the play area. eibe’s has a wide and varied product range. Using only FSC Certified Timbers, we manufacture and supply a large quantity of timber/wooden and steel playground equipment to a wide range of public and private customers. In addition, to the above eibe’s manufacturing process for the pressure impregnation of its timbers is tested and certified to RAL standard. Ensuring that the chemicals used in the manufacturing process are non-harming, and furthermore ensure that at the end of all eibe equipment life it can be disposed of without harming the environment. All Steel elements are manufactured to our required specifications using appropriately sourced materials with a focus on recycled materials. The steel used in the manufacture of structural elements is either galvanised or powder coated and fixtures are stainless steel. This ensures a long lifetime of use with low maintenance and can all be recycled for use in the future. We have repaired and refurbished play units at many sites and included them in the installation where they add play value for very little outlay. Other authorities have requested that their existing units are de-installed and re-installed in an alternative location or, sometimes, in their depots for future use. The spoil resulting from foundation excavations is important to any site as it allows the site to be contoured with mounds, bunds or other features adding three dimensional interest. Any arisings that cannot be reused will be disposed of in local registered and licenced sites. One example is the reuse of Wetpour surfacing which was previously sent to landfill. Now there are recycling opportunities whereby the wetpour is processed and reused for equestrian menage surfacing. We are also certified under the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) to ensure we maintain and improve our environmental performance. When assessing potential subcontractors and suppliers, we review their approach to sustainability ie do they use recycled and/or environmentally sound materials. Awards On Friday 11 November 2016 we were presented with our Green Apple awards for Environmental Best Practice and appointed as International Green World Ambassadors at a ceremony at the Houses of Parliament. We were accompanied by representatives from Rhonda Cynon TAF CBC with whom we were awarded Gold in the Built environment Gold Award International Green World Ambassadors We were honoured as International Green World Ambassadors for the second time at the special ceremony held at The Crystal in Docklands, regarded as the most sustainable events venue in the whole of the UK. This prestigious recognition comes as a result of the environmental success of our “Dinosaur Island” project at Southwater Country park in Horsham, which won a Green Apple Environment Award .Dr Paula Owen of Green Gumption presented eibe’s managing director, Paul Redden, with the trophies and certificates.

As a result of that success, we get our winning paper published in The Green Book, the world’s only annual work of reference on environmental best practice that is distributed to environment professionals, universities and libraries around the world by The Green Organisation. The award judges commented: “As always with eibe, the project was rooted in sustainability and fun - aims which were met and exceeded according to both the council and park visitors.” Our second Green Apple Award entry will be focused on how our remarkable robinia indoor play area at Pensthorpe Nature Reserve has enhanced Norfolk’s Wensum Valley’s environmental status. We were also thrilled to announce that eibe Play won Eagle Radio’s 2016 Biz Awards - Green Award Category. This annual event celebrates business success in Surrey and Hampshire and has an array of areas in which you can nominate yourselves that include “Start-up”, “Digital Innovation and “Entrepreneur”. The “Green” category was an obvious choice for eibe following our phenomenal success at the Green Apple awards at the Houses of Parliament in November. The subsequent Green World Ambassador status bestowed on us really underpins our commitment to sustainability and enhances our reputation in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility. eibe recognised for environmental best practice in 2015 eibe Play was honoured as Green World at a special ceremony in the Houses of Parliament in November 2015. The recognition came as a result of the environmental success of the company’s diverse Sport England-Primary Spaces Project which won a Green Apple Environment Award. The award judges commented: “Aiming to transform over 600 Schools’ play provisions, eibe Play and their usual team of installers and sub-contractors, were chosen as the right team to head the project. Most Primary Schools have very little play area and the Primary Spaces fund has culminated in over quarter of a million pounds worth of revenue to provide bright new playgrounds, resurfacing, netting, wall mounts and floor markings, to utilise every inch of space available. Eventually, £150million worth of sporting equipment and facilities will be available to many, developing a sporting habit for life.” Paul Redden, Managing Director, is proud of eibe’s environmental roots: “The Green World Ambassador status is one we embrace and utilise fully. From sustainable manufacturing to partnering with like-minded businesses, we will continue to invest in our Corporate Social Responsibilities in the years ahead.”

Sustainability, environmental and social, both pre and post installation? Prior to and during the installation phase, we will ensure the minimum disruption to the public in terms of noise, dust, traffic, storage and timings of deliveries etc. The spoil resulting from foundation excavations is important to any site as it allows the site to be contoured with mounds, bunds or other features adding three dimensional interest. Any arisings that cannot be reused will be disposed of in registered and licenced sites. The installation phase of the project will be undertaken by one of our teams based locally which will benefit the employment, minimise the transport costs and resultant emissions. In addition, this is not to say that ‘Local People’ will not benefit from eibe Play Ltd delivering this contract. Examples of this mainly include local economic benefits such as: • eibe installation team members staying at local hotels if required • eibe utilising local hire companies for plant/welfare/and security • eibe utilising local suppliers for materials such as topsoil, turf etc. • make use of local facilities such as café’s and other services which will bring local economic benefit. The sites will be considerably improved in looks and accessibility to all users. They will, of course make use of the local facilities and this will be the long term benefit to the local area. The park will increasingly become a destination area where the community can meet and socialise in a comfortable and safe environment and promoting social wellbeing from the onset and into the future. We have proposed equipment and materials to ensure that you will own a play area which is robust, reliable and requiring minimal maintenance. We have not included any “temperamental” equipment. The resulting maintenance cost to the Council has been considered as part of the design and we confirm that as a result of the robust nature of the equipment and longevity of the materials, the ongoing, lifetime maintenance costs will be minimal. Due to its modular nature, eibe equipment may be easily repaired by replacing only the required section rather than a major section of the equipment. Industry standard security fixings are used and any we will supply any specialist tools which are required. Maintenance may be undertaken with no specialist training. The materials we propose to use will be RAL certified and from sustainable sources. Our accreditation and certifications relating to sustainability are available on request
