Opening in 1897, having taken only 4 months to build, The Selsey Tram travelled form Selsey Beach pond to Chichester. The Selsey closed early 1935 At first, the Selsey Tramway had many passengers (in 1919 it had 102,000). However, during the 1920s and early 1930s, it faced growing competition from buses. By 1933 Selsey Tramway only carried 21,000 passengers. Two years later it was forced to close.
